The market
California electric rates keep climbing, and NEM 3.0 changed the game: the winning pitch is no longer "sell your extra power," it's solar plus battery, sized to how a home actually uses energy. Homeowners feel the bill going up and the grid going down. That means real conversations at the door, not cold ones.
You will never have to invent a problem. Your job is to show people the honest math on a problem they already have.
Why VertX
Most solar sales horror stories aren't about selling. They're about what happens after the contract: permits stall, installs slip, deals cancel, commissions vanish. VertX is built so that doesn't happen to your work.
The role
Everyone in solar sales starts in one of three seats. At VertX the path between them is short and earned.
Knock neighborhoods in your territory, start conversations, and set appointments. This is where you learn the trade: the product, the objections, the rhythm of the door. No experience required.
Qualify interest, book consultations, and keep the calendar full for closers. Sharper qualifying means better appointments, and better appointments mean everybody gets paid.
Run kitchen-table consultations, walk homeowners through the honest math, and sign the deal. Closers are made, not hired; most of ours came up through the first two seats.
Compensation
Sales roles at VertX are independent contractor (1099) positions, paid on commission. You control your schedule, your effort, and your ceiling. Production gets paid; activity alone doesn't.
Here's what we won't do: post income screenshots, promise you six figures in year one, or dress commission sales up as a salary. Solar recruiting is full of that, and it's how reps end up broke and bitter in six months. In your interview we go through the exact commission structure, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Training & licensing
New reps learn the product line, NEM 3.0 economics, and how a deal actually moves from signature to permission-to-operate, because reps who understand fulfillment sell honestly and close stronger. You'll train in the field alongside experienced reps before you run your own territory.
California requires door-to-door home improvement salespeople to register with the CSLB as a Home Improvement Salesperson (HIS). We walk you through the registration as part of onboarding, so you're knocking legally from day one.
FAQ
No. We hire for work ethic and coachability and train the rest. Plenty of strong closers started with zero sales background. Everyone gets the same product, pitch, and field training before they knock a single door.
No. Sales roles at VertX are independent contractor (1099) positions. You control your schedule and your ceiling, and you are paid on production, not hours. If you want a salaried desk job, this is not that.
Door-to-door home improvement sales in California requires registering with the CSLB as a Home Improvement Salesperson (HIS). It is a registration, not an exam, and we walk new reps through the application as part of onboarding.
The vertxusa.com lineup: solar designed for NEM 3.0 economics, Tesla Powerwall battery storage, roofing, HVAC, and windows. Systems are sized to real usage after a real roof inspection, so what you sell is what actually gets built.
We are based in West Covina and run territories across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire, with projects completed throughout California.
Commission, paid on production. We go through the exact structure, in writing, during your interview. We do not post income figures online, and you should be suspicious of any solar sales page that does.
Apply
Fill this out and a real person at VertX reads it, not a screening bot. If it looks like a fit, we'll call you, tell you exactly how the role and the commission work, and let you decide with the full picture.
